University College of Education is one of the premier institutions in this region and established in the year 1962 by Dr. D.C. Pavate then Vice-Chancellor of Karnatak University, Dharwad. This is a constituent College of Karnatak University, Dharwad and approved by UGC under section 2(f) and 12(B). Smt. Sulabha Panadikar was the first Principal of this College in the year 1962-64, who was the one of the members of Kothari Education Commission Report (1964-66). This is Co-Educational College and provides pre-service training to the secondary school teachers. This institution is catering the needs of the secondary school teachers, teacher-educators and administrative officers of Karnataka State. The products of this institution are working in the institutions of throughout India and also in Abroad. All the Teacher Educators are Ph.D Degree holders and also they are Research Guides (Ph.D). The College (Teacher Educators) has produced 21 Ph.Ds. The teachers of this institution have completed Major (UGC) and Minor Research Projects (SSA, UGC etc). The Teacher Educators of our college have participated in the National, International Seminars, Workshops etc and presented their papers on various aspects of teacher education. The college is publishing Research journal in Education entitled ‘Journal of the College of Education (ISSN No. 0022-4979)’. Our College also has Students’ Magazine entitled ‘Inchar (EAZÀgÀ)’. Our college has independent library having more than 32,000 books and journals. The Research Students of other University are visiting to our library for their reference work. We are also having Psychological Laboratory, Educational Technology Laboratory and Computer Laboratory in our College. Our college has conducted Campus Interview in the month of April, 2009 for the placement of our past students. Every year our graduated students will be absorbed in various secondary schools of Government through CET and other aided and unaided institutions. Maximum numbers of our students belong to SC, ST and OBC. Our college has Sulabha Hostel for Ladies and Ghataprabha Hostel for Boys. We have 8 Practice Teaching Secondary Schools in Dharwad city, wherein the student teachers of our college complete their Practice Teaching and other Practical Assignments related to the course.

The college also conducted seminars, workshops for student teachers and teachers. The College conducts every year Citizenship Training Camp, Sports, Yoga Class, other Co-curricular Activities and Special Lectures by the experts for the benefit of the student teachers. Our college is built up in the vast campus of constituent colleges of Karnatak University, Dharwad. Every year we have cent percent results in the annual exam and students secure First Class with Distinction and also secure university Ranks. The SWOT analysis based on the feedback of all the stakeholders and facts ( results and placements etc. ) reveal that the strengths of the institution like reputed old institution in heritage building, qualified staff , centrally located and management support will have to be further strengthened in the interest of stake holders for more and more effective functioning of the institution. This is an institution which is known for pre-service secondary school teacher training in this part of North Karnataka. In the present world of competition we have to continuously innovate and re-adopt ourselves to the changing world. The college under the headship of present Principal Dr.(Smt) L.B.Patted is working successfully and has been strengthened in academic, administration and infrastructural facilities. The college under the guidance of dynamic management headed by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Promod Gai of Karnatak University and all the previous eminent Vice-Chancellors since its inception have encouraged to improve the infrastructural facilities and Human Resource to enhance academic excellence, spirituality, social relevance and personality development of the students of all sections of society. Our vision is to make our college a centre of excellence in teacher education by imparting Quality Education through which young men and women would be teacher to be globally competitive, skillful, responsible and self reliant.
